[1] AIPM Conference Talk: Who said Leadership theory Kant be as simple as 1,2,3

At the 2023 AIPM National Conference, our team found one of the highlights to be the talks delivered by visionary speakers, that not only captivated the audience but also left an indelible mark of inspiration. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, sharing valuable insights, groundbreaking ideas, and thought-provoking experiences. This particular talk was given by Mr Lachlan Waite, Principal Portfolio Officer of the Major Projects Branch at Brisbane City Council. Lachlan's leadership journey began at the Defence Academy at the age of 17, where he immersed himself in a comprehensive leadership development program for a decade. Upon transitioning to the civilian corporate environment and over the subsequent ten years as a project leader and mentor, Lachlan honed a practical understanding of leadership essentials, evolving into a committed advocate for leadership development.

With this background, he spoke on the topic of "Who said Leadership theory Kant be as simple as 1,2,3," focusing on simplifying leadership theory for those newest to the trade.

The key takeaway from this talk was regarding the 3 essential parts to leadership:

  1. Meaningful work (something to do)

  2. Fellowship (someone to love)

  3. Shared ambitions (something to hope for)

This was particularly interesting in the way it was found to have great alignment to the 3 PMLogic values: purpose, people and planet.
