James is an acknowledged global thought leader in the development of business transformation governance structures and operating models. He is the NSW President of the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) and sought after for advice to C-suite leaders in Manufacturing, Logistics, Distribution, Banking, Finance, Wealth, Insurance, Defence, Government (Federal, State & Local) as well as the legal industry.

James is a qualified Project Portfolio Advisor, Approved Consultant and Trainer in Portfolio, Programme, Project, PMO, Benefits Management and Maturity Reviews. His experience spans over 17 years and includes leading a whole of Government sector review and forming a joint venture with top-tier consulting organisations.

He has reviewed initiatives from portfolio to project level on a maturity and improvement basis and has been responsible for the management of large-scale (> AU$10b) global change programs, fulfilling various roles from Programme Director to Project Manager and Organisational Change Manager using additional frameworks such as PMBoK, APMG Change Management, Lean Six Sigma, PROSCI and John Kotter.

He is a results-driven, strategic thinker with proven management experience in planning and delivering products and services through multiple concurrent portfolios, programmes and projects to successfully achieve agreed outcomes.He has vast experience training and developing over 1,000 staff involved in projects, programs and portfolios.

James has an extensive, in-depth working understanding of managing initiatives through the full lifecycle of their development: from strategic planning/goal setting through transition and organisational change management into the new working landscape.

James often presents at conferences and forums on setting up portfolio project environments for success and leads the strategy implementation models for QUT’s Executive Masters in Complex Program Leadership.

John has had over 25 years experience in all major facets of project management including roles as project manager, project planner (scheduler) and consulting support.

His specialisation is in undertaking reviews of cost and schedule baselines, and the development of related policy within both the Australian and United States Departments of Defence.

John has developed and presented training courses to Government and Contractor personnel within Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States and reviewed management systems within companies undertaking major defence production within Australia, the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom.

John has been involved with earned value since its adoption by Australia in 1989. In addition, he has undertaken the development of standard Contract clauses for CSCSC (now Earned Value Management or EVM) and developed training standards for the introductory, review and overview courses and development and implementation of payment by EV.

He has supported both the Australian Department of Defence (Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter and Multi-Role Helicopter Projects) and the UK Ministry of Defence (Typhoon and Nimrod Projects) in undertaking baseline reviews in Australia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
